Chris D'Angelo
Director

While earning my degree in Drama from the University of Virginia, a professor told me that I really should consider being a director rather than concentrating only on acting because I was "really good at it". That lit the spark that I pursue to this day.

Since coming to South Florida in 2007, I have strived to create professional-quality productions for my students that allow them to gain experience in every aspect of putting on a show, from tech, to stage crew, to acting, to directing themselves. When working with adults, I bring that same spirit of open collaboration and respect to the entire process.

I've directed everything from Shakespeare, to modern drama, farce, improv, sketch comedy, and lavish musicals like Beauty and the Beast. I've shepherded new plays from screen to stage and created devised works on subjects as varied as superheroes, time-travel, and fairy tales. Whether you're looking to put on a small production in a borrowed space or a big budget production in a concert hall, I am the solutions-based, actor-focused director that can help your company reach its potential. Let's create together!

Improvisation and Sketch

The Annual Country Day Comedy Classic

With students, brainstormed and produced an evening of short-form improvisation and sketch comedy.

Each evening had a theme, such as time travel or superheroes, and students scripted, shot, and edited video packages to create a story line within the theme

Devised Work

The Cycle

Through workshopped productions at area schools and collaboration with Dr. April Vogel, school psychiatrist, created a one act play, The Cycle ,that used the student author’s own experiences to promote discussion and awareness of bullying in schools. The script earned a Critic’s Choice at District Thespian competitions. The student playwright received a Silver Knight Award for using theater to enrich the community, and this play has since been published by Dramatic Publishing Co.
